External wheelchair lifts

Asked by

We need to install an external wheelchair lift for my 77 yr old boss (who has Parkinson’s and is mostly in a wheelchair) to get up the front stairs to his house.  The quotes that we have had so far are hugely expensive, and the apparatus itself looks really bulky .  Bearing in mind that it is a communal front door, used by the other flats in the building, we are trying to find something less obtrusive.  Does such a thing exist and or does anyone have any experience, good or bad,of privately installed wheelchair lifts?

Hi – no personal experience I’m afraid.  Stannah any good?   Have you tried people like Age UK – they might be able to help?  My experience of aids for older people is that they are often purely practical – and not always pretty,,,,, good luck.
