Flu Jab Season!

Asked by

It could be time to remind your elderly relatives to take advantage of the free flu jab that is on offer at the moment! I took  Dad to the GP today to have his. It was very quick, as his practise runs a ‘drop in’ type clinics at this time of year. Anyone over 65 can have the jab for free and the waiting room was certainly heaving –  in fact Dad met quite a few friends in the waiting room, so it turned into a bit of a social event for him too. I think he was relieved to get it done. He told me he views it as a bit of a safety blanket for the Winter months ahead.

I used to struggle with this one because mum was convinced the jab gave her the flu. I’ve heard other elderly relatives say the same. Can’t remember which paper or website I was reading when I saw this is a common myth. So I found this to show her http://www.nhs.uk/Livewell/winterhealth/Pages/Flu-myths.aspx . Don’t know if it will make any difference but got to be worth a try…
