You may be able to get some immediate assistance from your local Community Rehab Team, they can do a wheelchair assessment and fast track any request for a wheelchair. An assessment for a wheelchair is basic and they will assess his mobility and find suitable aids to suit his needs. Does he have a wheeled walker or any stand/walking aid? His GP is aware of his rapidly declining mobility, so he should be able to refer you for assessment at the Community Rehab Team or Social Service for an Occupational Therapist Assessment. There may be other resources and home aids they can provide to support your Stepdad. Most Hospitals have wheelchairs for patients to borrow whilst you are on site and getting too and from your transport, just enquire with the department you are attending. Hope that’s of some help.
