Why is Carers Stopped when State Pension starts

Asked by

My Mums getting older, I am getting older, so why is Carers Allowance axed when most Carers start their state pension ( unless of cause you are living on benefits ). The care for mum getsvgets more intense and us old daughters are getting into the illness zone of our own. WHO CARES OR GIVE A JOT ABOUT THE CARER….

Mmmn – I was puzzled by this too. My 88 year old father has an ‘underlying entitlement’ to carers’ allowance but because he gets state pension at a higher rate than the carer’s allowance, he can’t actually be paid this allowance. So we are going directly for attendance allowance for him instead, which my mother is already getting.

Coronavirus Support Group

In light of the current situation with Coronavirus we’ve created a group for people supporting elderly relatives at risk of Coronavirus.

A chance to virtually meet others in the same position, ask questions and share your experience in these strange and uncertain times.

It’s going to be a big team effort to get through this.
