Our Experience with the SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect

The SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect is an improvement on the already popular SureSafeGO. The original SureSafeGO has helped keep tens of thousands of people living safely and independently since its launch in 2015. It now has a sleeker design, updated tech and can come alongside a (optional) app.

Just like the previous model, the SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect connects the wearer to a 24/7 Response Centre if they fall, suddenly take ill, get lost or need help for any other reason. This can be initiated through the press of the clear SOS button on the front of the device or done automatically if the device detects a fall has taken place. It then dials the 24/7 Response Centre who can communicate directly through the alarm with the wearer to determine whatโ€™s wrong and how they can help. This could be by calling a family member, emergency services or just offering a bit of advice.

The SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect helps keep people safe at home, but it is also fully mobile which means the wearer can take it with them when theyโ€™re away from the home and you can still feel reassured that they will always be able to get help if they need it. They will also be able to be found should they need it as the device is fully GPS capable, something the companion app makes good use of. Weโ€™ve gone into detail on the app features a little further down.

Kay's Experience: Hands on with the SureSafeGO

The best people to tell us if this is a good solution are the people that will actually use it. With that in mind we asked Kay, 88, from Somerset to use the SureSafeGO, and for her family to get set-up on the app too. After a little over a week of Kay and her family using the SureSafeGO we asked them a few questions to get their thoughts.

Q. How long have you been wearing the SureSafeGO. How did you decide to wear it in the end?

A. Iโ€™ve been wearing the SureSafeGO on a lanyard around my neck for about 8 days now.

Q. We'll start with delivery and set-up โ€“ how was that?

A. Incredibly easy. Usually, I ask one of my children or grandchildren to help me with techy stuff, but it seemed easy enough for me to do it and it turned out it was! It came quickly in the post, and it was obvious which bits went where when I unwrapped it. There was the device (pendant) and a lanyard to attach to it and the charging block (dock) and a wire and plug. I plugged it in and fitted the pendant in the dock. It immediately started flashing and I left it there for 3 hours before using, as per the instructions. Then I just put it around my neck! Couldnโ€™t have been simpler.

Q. The first thing they ask you to try once youโ€™re set up is to press the button and test the connection โ€“ how was that?

A. Thatโ€™s right yes. I pressed the button on the pendant for 3 seconds and it started making some noises and flashing. After a few seconds it said it was calling the response team and that theyโ€™d be with me in a second. Then a man answered, called me by name and asked if I was okay. Once I explained I was testing it for the first time he said he was glad I was okay and to press the button if I ever needed any help! The whole thing took less than a minute, I think.

Q. How was the quality of the call? Was it loud and clear and was he easy to understand?

A. Oh yes! We talked through the pendant itself while it was around my neck. I didnโ€™t need to hold it near my ear โ€“ I could hear him very well and it seemed like he could hear me well too. His voice was clear and easy to understand โ€“ he even sounded like he was from the Midlands.

Q. And now youโ€™ve been wearing it for just over a week? How has it been?

A. Thatโ€™s right. Iโ€™ve barely noticed itโ€™s there in all honesty. Iโ€™ve just worn it around my neck. Sometimes I only notice it when itโ€™s time for bed.

Q. So itโ€™s comfortable to wear?

A. Oh yes, very. Like I say Iโ€™ve barely noticed it. I adjusted the lanyard when I first put it on so it sits nicely on my chest, and I can barely feel it. I wear it above my clothes, so I suppose that helps.ย

Q. Do you feel safer wearing it?

A. I do โ€“ especially when Iโ€™m alone if I go out around the garden or into the village. My husband sometimes doesnโ€™t go with me so its comforting to know that I could always press the button and tell someone I needed help if I ever did.

Q. Have you needed to charge it? The manual says it should last 7-10 days.

A. No, not yet. Iโ€™ve got into the habit of charging it when I go to bed but itโ€™s never told me it was low on battery. I did forget to charge it for a couple of days, but it didnโ€™t complain. I think itโ€™s great that it lasts that long (7-10 days). When I go away, I wonโ€™t need to take the charger with me.

Q. Overall then, what did you think of the SureSafeGO?

A. I think itโ€™s great. So simple to set up and for me it feels so important to know that if I needed help there would be a friendly voice there in less than 30 seconds.

We also asked Cath, Kayโ€™s daughter, a few questions about her experience with SureSafeGO and the companion app.

Q. Was it easy to get set up on the app?

A. Yes. I just followed a link send by text and set up an account and everything about Kay was already there for me.

Q. What was there on the app?

A. Well the home page has a little bit of a map that you can click, where the device last was, the number of steps mum had taken that day and an activity log that showed her testing the SOS button. It also showed how much charge was left.

Q. Was the app easy to navigate?

A. Very. The only thing that wasnโ€™t obvious was that you could click the map to expand it but everything else was simple to navigate. There isnโ€™t too much too it to be honest. The home page, a place to message other people with the app and then a profile page for me with settings on, and a place for me to say whether I am available or not.

Q. What has your overall experience been with the SureSafeGO?

A. Well, fortunately, we havenโ€™t really needed to use it yet but the main thing for me is that as long as mum is wearing it, sheโ€™s much safer, especially when sheโ€™s on her own. I do also quite like being to know where she is if I need to. She was running a little late to meet me and I was able to put my mind at rest by checking the app that showed her moving towards me. Thatโ€™s really handy as she sometimes doesnโ€™t have her phone on.

The Friends & Family App

For an additional ยฃ3 / month you can unlock a whole host of additional, and useful, features. These include being able to group chat with other friends or family in the app to streamline communication when caring for someone. For example you can say whether you have checked on the wearer after an alert notification to save other people doing so.ย

Using the app you can also set up Geo-fencing that can alert you if the wearer leaves a specific area. This is very useful if the wearer has dementia and is prone to wandering as not only can you find them if they get lost but you have an early indication that they are – meaning they spend a lot less time being lost. These are only a couple of the features that are available with the app.

Considerations

Pros

  • Not dependent on landline - works in the home and 'out and about'
  • 24/7 monitoring by trained team
  • Small and sleek pendant is comfortable to wear
  • Can speak directly through the pendant
  • GPS tracking as standard
  • Built-in fall detection technology
  • Water-resistant (showerproof)

Cons

  • You can't wear it on your wrist
  • User needs to remember to charge the pendant (although the monitoring team will call you to remind you to charge it if it drops below 20%)
  • Won't work if there is no mobile signal (very rural locations)

How to Buy the SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect

*all prices already have Age Space discount applied*

Buy the SureSafeGO Alarm 24/7 Monitored

When buying the SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect there are two additional options to consider – whether or not you get the accompanying app and automatic fall detections. You don’t need the app for the device to have 24/7 monitoring. If you want to utilise geo-fencing, GPS-live tracking, the friends and family chat feature, step/activity monitoring, and device information (signal strength and battery life) then you should get monitoring with the app. You can have unlimited users downloading and signing into the app. Fall detection also requires an added fee.

Almost all SureSafe customers will be eligible for VAT relief so we haven’t included that in the pricing below.

Your Questions Answered

We took your questions about the SureSafeGO 24/7 Connect directly to SureSafe. We will also have a review from an Age Space user here soon so look out for that!

Q. What if the device doesn't have SIM signal?

Our SIMs are roaming safety SIMs that jump between the three big networks (Vodafone, O2 and EE) to get the best signal possible so that 99% of the population will have the signal needed for the alarm to work at home or when out and about.

In the unlikely event that you donโ€™t have a strong mobile signal at home, or anywhere you spend a considerable amount of time, SureSafe offer a range of landline-based alarms โ€“ alarms that do not require mobile signal.

Q. How many people can log into the App?

You can have unlimited users for only ยฃ3 / month (thats total, not each) and you can also have as many family and friends as you want download the app.

Q. Can my dad wear it on their belt or have it in his pocket?

Absolutely. There is an optional leather belt-clip available which can be clipped to a belt, waistband or indeed a pocket.

Q. How long does it take to charge?

The device is fully charged in only 2.5hours.

Q. Does it plug into the landline?

No, no landline needed! It comes with a roaming safety mobile SIM already installed, it can be used at home, in the garden and when out and about e.g. at the shops.

Q. How quickly will the Response Centre answer the call?

We answer most calls in just a few seconds. 98.5% of calls are answered in under 90 seconds.

Q. What if my relative is unable to speak after falling?

Donโ€™t worry. In the unlikely event that we canโ€™t speak to your relative we will still arrange for help. This could be letting loved ones know or calling the emergency services. No alarm call goes unanswered.

Q. What happens if the Response Centre calls the emergency services for my loved one?

After calling the emergency services then the response centre will call family and friends contacts to let them know what is happening.
