We are looking for volunteers to test smart water jugs designed to monitor personal hydration levels.
You can sign up here to register your interest to volunteer – Smart Hydration Volunteer.
Why is hydration important?
Drinking enough – aka good hydration – is essential for everyone’s health and well-being, especially as we age. As we grow older we tend to have less water in our bodies, often due to factors such as medication use or health conditions. For many, the natural urge to drink diminishes with age.
Dehydration is a common cause of hospitalisation among people over 65, with 82,392 cases reported by the NHS in 2023 for UTIs alone. The consequences of dehydration range from dizziness and falls, reduced cognitive ability, and more serious health issues like UTIs and constipation.
Keeping track of how much you’re drinking is one way to help reduce the risk of dehydration, whether for yourself or someone you’re caring for.
We’re excited to be partnering with Smart Hydration, a company dedicated to helping people accurately monitor and record their hydration levels. They are looking for Age Space volunteers to test their Smart Jug.
The jug sits on a ‘smart base’ that tracks fluid levels in real time and sends the data to an app or online dashboard for easy access.
It’s user-friendly and ideal for anyone looking to track their own hydration or monitor someone else’s intake.
How to participate
If you or someone you care for would like to participate in the trial of the Smart Hydration jug, here’s what you’ll need:
- Be willing to test the smart jug over a 3-month period.
- Have access to the internet and either a computer or an Android phone to download the dashboard or app for tracking fluid levels.
- Be willing to answer questions about your experience with the jug and offer any suggestions for improvement.
- If you’re caring for someone who will be testing the jug, both of you must agree to participate.
- Be aged between 55 and 80 and in good health.
If you’re interested in joining the trial, please complete this short application form, and someone from Smart Hydration will get in touch. (The link takes you to SurveyPlanet to sign up).
