Maintaining physical and mental wellbeing is vital to ageing healthily and remaining independent for as long as possible. Across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, there are a great range of exercise classes and clubs specially designed for older people. From yoga to walking netball to chair based exercises, there is something for everyone to enjoy no matter their interests or physical ability. The county also provides befriending services to combat isolation, and classes to regain confidence after a stoke.
Steady & Strong exercise classes are run by Hampshire County Council for people aged 65+. They aim to help people to gain strength and balance, and avoid falls. The movements are designed to help the elderly to remain living independently. They strengthen the muscles used for everyday actions such as getting out of the bath and walking up and down the stairs.
As people get older, it is normal to need more assistance with certain daily tasks around meal preparation: shopping, cooking and washing up. There are meal delivery services available across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, ensuring regular healthy meals are on the table.
