Care homes in Surrey

With over 250 registered care homes in Surrey there are seemingly plenty of options.  How you choose the best care home with your elderly parent or relative will be based on a range of practical and emotional decisions which may include:  the type of care needed (now and in the future), the location of the care home, amenities and services available, does it take pets, and the all-important cost.  To help your search we have compiled a list of Surrey care homes.

We have included different options so that you can start to see what different care homes provide, and what to look for. From larger, purpose-built care homes with specialist care units, to smaller, more “home from home” residential care homes in Surrey. The choice can be almost overwhelming, and very individual. We have also included a range of providers, from large national groups to small owner-managed businesses, as well as charities.

Room availability may be your biggest challenge particularly if a place is needed fast, so well worth doing some research ahead of time and making contact with your preferred options.

FAQs on Surrey Care Homes

What are the different types of care home to choose from?

There are 2 types of care home: a residential care home provides additional support for every day tasks such as washing and dressing, taking medication etc.,  A nursing care home will have 24/7 nursing care on the premises.  Both types of care home may also have specialist Dementia units.

How much does a care home in Surrey cost?

The average cost of a care home in Surrey ranges from £1100 per week to £1900 per week.  The cost is based on individual needs, with more specialist care such as dementia care being the more expensive.

How do we pay for a care home place?

If your parents or relatives currently have more than £23,500 in assets they will be funding their own place in a care home.  Surrey County Council will fund in part or full for someone with less than this.  In some cases, the NHS will also fund a care home place.  IT is a good idea to have a care needs assessment from the council before moving in to a care home.

How do we find specialist dementia care homes in Surrey?

There is a good selection of care homes in Surrey that provide Dementia care.  You can look on Lottie.org and/or the Care Quality Commission websites to find a list of relevant care homes.
