Befriending Services for the Elderly in Sussex

Befriending Services for the Elderly in Sussex

Getting older can also make it more difficult to get out and about and meet new or old friends, creating a feeling of isolation from the outside world and loneliness.

Luckily, Sussex has a range of befriending services available so that older residents can meet new people and make new friendships in comfortable environments.

Sussex Befriending Service

These services can include something as simple as a drop-in from a familiar face, or a weekly phone call, but can also be a social group that your elderly relative can go to. If you’re after something more frequent or activity based, you may be interested in our guide to Elderly Day Care Centres in Sussex.

We have split the different services between those primarily in East Sussex and West Sussex, though it may be worth you taking a look through all of the listings depending on where you live in the counties.

East Sussex Befriending Services

Age UK Befriending

Age UK East Sussex’s befriending service is for residents who are aged over 55 and feel isolated. The service involves a weekly call and lasts up to 26 weeks, although there may be specific occasions where a physical meet up will be appropriate and available. A key element of what they aim to achieve with this service is to support the client in becoming better integrated within their community and ultimately less reliant on the service as they will no longer feel isolated.
