Across Surrey, older people can take advantage of discounts and concessions that are exclusively available to the over 60s. From travel, to visiting National Trust properties, to enjoying the cinema, there is plenty to be enjoyed at a discounted price.

Over 60s Discounts for Travel in Surrey

Senior Free Bus Travel

Older people are entitled to free off-peak travel on local buses in England. The free bus pass allows free travel on local buses anywhere in England between 9.30am and 11:00pm on weekdays, all day on weekends and public holidays.

Anybody who has reached the female state pension age is eligible for a free bus pass. You can check your state pension age here.

In Surrey, you can apply for the free elderly person’s bus pass through the council’s website. When applying, you will need a proof of identity, proof of address and your national insurance number.

Senior Railcard

A senior railcard (for over 60s) can be purchased online at National Rail. This entitles you to a 1/3rd of all rail fares and costs £30 for one year or £70 for three years.

A senior railcard holder can also get discounts on a number of Railcard partners, including Naked Wines, Haven Holidays and more.

Senior Coachcard

A Senior Coachcard for those aged over 60 can be purchased online at National Express. A Senior Coachcard entitles the holder to a 1/3rd off all fares for a yearly price of £15.00 (+ £3.00 p&p).

Blue Badge Scheme

The Blue Badge scheme is designed to help those with severe mobility problems park close to where they need to get to.

To apply for a Blue Badge, you can check eligibility, and apply online through the government website. You can apply on behalf of someone else, or if you often transport an elderly parent or relative.

Leisure Discounts for the Over 60s in Surrey

National Trust Senior Membership

The National Trust offers a 25% discount off of their membership scheme for those over 60, who have held a membership for the last three consecutive years. There are many beautiful National Trust properties throughout Surrey that you can visit for free with a membership card, including Box Hill and Claremont Landscape Gardens (check out our list of the National Trust venues to visit across Surrey). This is an opt-in scheme, meaning your membership won’t automatically update to the reduced rate. To get this discount, ring 0344 800 1895.

English Heritage

English Heritage have many sites across Surrey, such as Farnham Castle Keep and Waverley Abbey with a wealth of history and natural beauty to enjoy. Their membership scheme can be bought at a reduced Senior rate for those over 65. You can apply for the membership online, by phone (0370 333 1182) or at any of their sites.

Better Leisure Centres Senior Membership

Elderly couple enjoying swimming Better Leisure Centres offer discounted membership for those who are 66 and over. This means cheaper access to gyms, swimming pools and fitness classes, all of which can contribute to living a healthier lifestyle and meeting new friends.

In Surrey, there are Better Leisure Centres in four locations: Epsom, Horley, Redhill and Tadworth.

Haslemere Gardening Society Membership

Members of the Haslemere Gardening Society can enjoy discounts at local firms and gardening centres. Single memberships cost £8 and a joint membership costs £12.
