Across Surrey, older relatives can take advantage of discounts and concessions exclusively available to the over 60s! From travel to visiting National Trust properties to enjoying the cinema, there is plenty to be enjoyed at a discounted price.

Over 60s Discounts for Travel in Surrey

Senior Free Bus Travel

Older people are entitled to free off-peak travel on local buses in England. The free bus pass allows free travel on local buses anywhere in England between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays and all day weekends and public holidays.

All those (male or female) who have reached female state pension age are eligible. Check your state pension age.

In Surrey, you can apply for the free elderly person’s bus pass through the council. You can apply online or at a local participating library. When applying, you will need proof of identity, proof of address and your national insurance number.

Senior Railcard

A senior railcard (for over 60s) can be purchased online at National Rail. This entitles you to a 1/3rd of all rail fares. It costs £30 for one year or £70 for three years.

A senior railcard holder can also get discounts at number of Railcard partners, including Naked Wines, Haven Holidays, and more. Senior railcards can also access a tastecard for the first three months for £1.

Senior Coachcard

A Senior Coachcard for those aged over 60 can be purchases online at National Express. A Senior Coachcard entitles the holder to a 1/3rd off all fares for a yearly price of £12.50 (+£2.50 p&p).

Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme is designed to help those with severe mobility problems who have difficulty using public transport park close to where they need to go.

To apply for a Blue Badge, check eligibility, and apply online on the government website. You can apply on behalf of someone else, or if you often transport an elderly parent or relative.

National Trust Senior Membership

A 25% discounted senior membership deal is available to the over 60s who have been a member of the National Trust for at least five years out of the last 10. It’s £54 a year for an individual over 60s membership, and £90 for a joint over 60s membership.

In Surrey there are Better Leisure Centres in four locations: Epsom, Horley, Redhill and Tadworth.

Freedom Leisure Centres Elderly Swimming Discounts

Freedom Leisure Centres offer discounted swimming memberships to the over 60s. An annual swimming membership costs around 2/3 of the normal adult price, but exact cost is dependent on the local centre.

In Surrey, there are Freedom Leisure Centres with swimming pools at four locations: Caterham, Guildford, Tandridge and Woking.

Members of the Haslemere Gardening Society can enjoy discounts at local firms and gardening centres. Single membership costs £8 or £12 for a joint membership.
